Biography:

In twelve years of musical career, les Tambours de Brazza have amazed and delighted audiences on four continents. Their music shows how much Hip Hop owes to the traditional Ngoma drums of the Bantu kingdoms, whose people are sharing the symbolism of Kongo drums with a new generation: 'Ngoma', is the union of two words: 'NGO' the strength of the Leopard and 'MA' what is given. Tambours de Brazza first found this 'Given strength' in the Congo's capital Brazzaville, where Emile Biayenda, jazz drummer and founder of the band, gathered together hundreds of young Ngoma drummers from all over the country. Their revolutionary style will become a model for a new generation of musicians. This 'strength' helped them survive a civil war that devastates the Congo. In 1997, after a major European tour, unable to return to their country, they were forced for a while to settle in Cotonou, the main port of Bénin, and from there to make their voice heard throughout Europe, West Africa, Hong Kong and Japan, before settling in France In 2001. Those who saw them that year at the The "Musiques Métisses d'Angouleme " festival, realized that "Les Tambours de Brazza" were ordinary traditional African dance show! Since then, the band have been working round the clock. Their first two albums were based on their stage show, while the songs on 'Tandala' have a more refined studio sound and powerful African percussion is mixed with vocal melody lines, reminiscent of Hip Hop and R&B. It's a caress with the power of Ngoma! Congolese group Les Tambours de Brazza will released their third album 'Tandala' across Europe on the 29th of April 2003. The group was brought together in 1991 by drummer, percussionist and author/composer, Emile Biyaenda who had been working in reggae, jazz and traditional music ensembles. Les Tambours fuse heritage with modernity: traditional instruments give the bass-guitar and congas a jazz-like resonance.
